Most of high-need kids (and not only high-need) are:
strong-willed (super strong, I’d add)
obstinate
opinionated and
persistent.
The question that comes to mind is when is this acceptable as a part of child’s character and when is a kid just misbehaving (to put it in nice words)…
Keep in mind the chart that I’ve added in a previous post and hold the positive features of high-need toddlers and teens as an ultimate goal. Ask yourself a question: is this the way to raise a caring, passionate, and compassionate adult? If yes – great job – keep up the good work! If not, maybe rethink some actions. Saying ‘no’ to kids, even high-need (I know it’s not easy), is sometimes necessary. At the end of the day, you are preparing the for the future and it will hold a lot of ‘no‘s. Hopefully they will learn how to cope with rejection, dust themselves off and continue conquering the world 👑. I’ll let you know how our minion turns out.
